NearMeFree / Methodology

Current, local, sourced

Useful listings have a source and an expiration plan.

This is the operating contract for the Commerce City pilot and any market that follows.

What qualifies

A listing must describe an event, activity, program, or durable resource that is genuinely free to the relevant visitor. If registration, membership, donation, purchase, or another cost is required, that condition must be explicit and may disqualify the listing.

What every listing keeps

  • an authoritative public source and source organization;
  • date/time or a documented ongoing status;
  • location and market;
  • what “free” includes and excludes;
  • the date first seen and last checked; and
  • a route to report a correction.

What submission means

A community submission enters moderation. It is not proof, endorsement, or automatic publication. NearMeFree checks the source, current status, location, and free claim before approval.

How expiration works

Time-sensitive events leave current discovery after their end. A page remains indexed as an archive only when it has legitimate historical, recurring-event, or route-continuity value—and it must say past event prominently.

How future sourcing may work

NearMeFree may ingest official APIs, calendar feeds, or permitted structured data. Each source must have recorded terms, data shape, refresh cadence, rate limits, and failure behavior. We will link back rather than copy protected descriptions or images without permission.

How cities earn indexing

A city needs at least 20 current listings or durable resources, five independent source organizations, working submissions, visible verification dates, and an owner or review queue for freshness. Below that gate, a market can remain a noindex preview.

How sponsorship works

A sponsor may fund a city guide or receive clearly labeled placement. Sponsorship does not control what qualifies, suppress unsponsored community resources, or replace organic relevance.

Core metric: verified current listings that help a visitor and can be maintained economically—not scraped page count.
